Kevin Smith Drops More Clues On BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN Batsuit

Last week, the Internet nearly exploded when Zack Snyder tweeted the first picture of Ben Affleck as Batman. Of course, those who have the right connections have about the suit for months. One of these people is notable comic book fan director Kevin Smith. Smith has been teasing the Man of Steel Batsuit for months, and even now he’s still one step above the rest of us. Although last week’s photo was the whole suit, since it was in black and white, we still don’t know what the color scheme will be like (prompting many people to break out Photoshop and play around with it).

Smith, on the other hand, has seen the whole suit, colors and all. He revealed recently on Hollywood Babble-On that last week’s picture doesn’t properly portray what the costume will look like.

As you may remember, I saw a photo of the Batsuit many months ago, and many people asked online, ‘Is that the picture you saw?’ No, that is a very cool picture, but that is not the picture I saw. They put it on a fake rooftop, and they lit it up. But it was in color, and you could see every piece of detail. So I’ve seen some people online go, ‘Why is this f***ing suit any different than the Christopher Nolan Batsuit, it’s all one f***ing color.’ It’s like, ‘Dude, that’s a monochrome photo. You know what that means, one chrome.

Instead, Smith reiterated what many others have already said: that this Batsuit is drawing inspiration from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns. Given that Affleck’s Batman will be older and battle-worn, that’s not much of a surprise.

That’s not a representation of what the suit looks like. So what the suit looks like, and I was always kind of keeping it quiet until they revealed it, but they’ve revealed it. And you can kind of see, and anybody that…you’ve seen some people take the picture and color it online. If you want to see what this f***ing suit looks like, you just go to Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, go to the third book, Hunt the Dark Knight…it’s the exact f***ing outfit he’s wearing. That’s why I hugged that guy all those months ago.

Smith also reminded us that it’s possible that that won’t be the only costume that Batman puts on in the film, and he may even have other Batmobiles in storage as well.

I will put this to you. What if it’s one of a few Batmobiles? What if that’s one of a few outfits in the movie? I suspect that’s the case.

Despite not being directly involved with the production, Smith clearly has the inside scoop on many of the film’s facets. While it’s important to wait on official confirmation, don’t be surprised if what he’s saying is true. As one of Hollywood’s most famous Batman fans (he’s currently co-writing a Batman ’66/Green Hornet miniseries), he cares a lot about the character, so he wouldn’t deliberately try to screw us over like that. Plus, Batman’s going to get his ass handed to him if he goes up against Superman in just that costume. Bat-armor sounds like a good bet.

As for different Batmobiles, what could alternate cars could he have besides the main one? We’ve already had a Dark Knight Returns-design with the Tumbler, but maybe it’ll be something more akin to an actual tank. However, there’s another possibility. If the design below is legit, maybe it will a Batman Beyond-inspired flying Batmobile. That would be awesome! Bats would be keeping up in the sky with Supes.
