Image Comics Reviews 5/9

Well, welcome to this week’s addition of the weekly Image Comics reviews. I’m your host, Daniel Alvarez. This week features the latest addition of The Walking Dead, and that’s always big news, right?  So let’s get on to the reason why you’re here, the reviews in 3..2…1…

Artifacts #17

In the words of Doctor Who, “Fantastic.” I think I might have just found my dream comic. Artifacts deals with some religious things, (angels, demonic forces) and I just love when this stuff is portrayed in media. Ghost Rider did a good job with that back in the day. Artifacts #17 is a unique comic for many reasons. The plot and characters are  something out of a Stephen King novel. Cool looking armor/suit? Check. Giant dark monsters and gremlins? Check. Artifacts #17 is one fun comic.

Invincible #91

Invincible is the face of Image. It’s usually the fan favorite when you go online. Image has a few superhero-themed comics, this is one of them. I like how ‘open’ it is. Ninety issues down, yet this one you can jump in without having any knowledge of the previous issues. Fun and light-toned? Yes. The characters are diverse snd the story is interesting. It is a bit confusing whether you’re supposed to take this story seriously or not, there’s a comedy undertone. With better writing, this issue could have gone places.

The Walking Dead #97

If Invincible’s the mascot of Image, The Walking Dead is the team. By 97 issues, you are either reading the series or not. Thanks to the show, this comic has been enjoying its popularity among the big boys of comics. This is my first ever issue, I’m here to tell you if this Part One of ‘Something to Fear‘ is new reader accessible. This series is built around zombies (obviously) so it appeals to a wide audience. 97 issues in, how can a new reader jump in? The Walking Dead is famous for its diverse character dynamics, yet Issue 97 you can jump in without feeling the need to read the previous 96. Unlike Prophet, you can jump in for one of the most engaging comics this week.
