Thanks the Heavens! HEAVENLY SWORD is Being Turned Into a Movie!

Only a day after an animated Ratchet and Clank film was announced, IGN is reporting that the fantasy hack-and-slash video game Heavenly Sword is also getting the movie treatment. Could this be the era of video game adaptions?

The interesting part is that Blockade Entertainment will be releasing the film…and they’re the ones producing Ratchet and Clank. Geez, they have a lot on their plate, huh? I really hope they succeed; if they do, then this could be the start of more animated video game adaptions that get released on the big silver screen! Unlike Ratchet and Clank, though, the Heavenly Sword film has no release date.

Heavenly Sword, which was developed by Ninja Theory (DmC: Devil May Cry) and published by Sony, was released for the PS3 September 2007, and a sequel is reportedly on the way. An animated web series was previosuly released. The game’s reception was pretty positive, earning a 9/10 in PlayStation Universe, and receiving the Editor’s Choice award from GamePro.

The voice cast for the film includes Anna Torv as Nariko (reprising her role from the game), Alfred Molina (Octavius in Spider-Man 2) as King Bohan, and Thomas Jane (Punisher) as Loki. Todd Farmer (Jason X, Drive Angry) will be handling script duties, while Brad Foxhoven and David Wohl (Witchblade) will be producers.

I think the film’s fantasy setting could attract viewers. I hope so anyway! But what about you?
