Ratchet and Clank Video Game Series Getting Theatrical Film?

In very sudden and unexpected (but not unwelcome) news, Sony’s Ratchet and Clank platformer video game series is getting a movie….a movie that will be shown in theaters! Nope, I am not kidding!

The movie, which is simply titled Ratchet and Clank, is being animated by Rainmaker Entertainment and produced by Blockade Entertainment. TJ Fixman will write the script, and  Jericca Cleland (Arthur Christmas) will be directing. Some of the voice cast from the games will reprise their roles, including James A. Taylor, David Kaye, and Jim Ward as Ratchet, Clank, and Qwark respectively.

A teaser trailer has also been released, and while the footage seemingly won’t be in the actual film, it should still cause some Ratchet and Clank fans to chuckle a bit!

The plot is described as:

Ratchet and Clank tells the story of two unlikely heroes as they struggle to stop a vile alien named Chairman Drek from destroying every planet in the Solana Galaxy. Ratchet is the last of his kind – a foolhardy ‘lombax’ who has grown up alone on a backwater planet with no family of his own. Clank is a pint-sized robot with more brains than brawn. When the two stumble upon a dangerous weapon capable of destroying entire planets, they must join forces with a team of colorful heroes called The Galactic Rangers in order to save the galaxy. Along the way they’ll learn about heroism, friendship, and the importance of discovering one’s own identity.

Judging from the plot summary, it seems like the film will adapt the first game. If the film does well, I imagine that sequels will be inevitable!

The film will be released in cinemas sometime in 2015. I for one, and VERY excited, although I have a feeling that Ratchet and Clank will only be getting a limited release.
