Marvel has confirmed that Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Johnson have joined Avengers: Age of Ultron. The pair will be playing villainous twins Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. This seemingly comes after Olsen confirmed herself and Johnson for the film, on TheDailyShow last week. The actress had been making the press rounds promoting Spike Lee’s Oldboy. Olsen co-stars with Avengers actor Samuel L. Jackson. We’ve heard Elizabeth talk about Scarlet Witch’s powers (and possible cosmic origin?). A new interview with MovieFone has her explaining a little more about Wanda.
I hung out with Mr. Whedon recently. I’m really excited about this movie. I’m so excited about Scarlet Witch. I have had so much fun reading all about her and I am like learning new words that I had to look up on Wikipedia. I’m really enjoying it.
I just love Scarlet Witch. I love her. It’s so funny because I’m often talking about all these psychologically damaged people, but when you talk about Scarlet Witch… She is a messed up lady. She has got more shit to deal with than anybody else I know. I’m excited to figure out what’s appropriate to use for her, because there’s so much material from all of these decades, and we’re going to tell this one story. So to be able to choose what you’re going to bring into it from all of this abundance, it’s really fun.
Out of the current lineup of characters in Age of Ultron. Wanda has the most connections to Ultron, played by James Spader. The cybernetic villain created android Vision, another Avengers member. Who, becomes Wanda’s love interest and eventual husband. He also is responsible for her death. It’ll be interesting to see how much of the comic book elements will make it into the massive sequel. Joss Whedon has a bunch of character arcs and motivations to work with. The script is has been reportedly completed. Production will begin soon at Pinewood Studios UK. It’s release date is set for May 1, 2015.
