Aaron Johnson spent the summer waxing poetic about Quicksilver during Comic-Con and the Kick-Ass 2 press tour. While Elizabeth Olsen kept mum about her involvement.  That’s until the trades, Samuel L. Jackson and Olsen herself confirmed her role as Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Age of Ultron. She’s now talking about her role to AintItCoolNews. Revealing Wanda is “crazy”, her unique powers and vague hints to her origin.

“She’s crazy. She has more things wrong with her than any character I’ve ever played. She can tell you where an object has been, she can tell you what your future is, she can connect with the dead and people from the past, the future, other universes, and she’s the only person in this universe who’s capable of doing that. She’s unbelievable; it’s so cool. I grew up loving ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Lord of the Rings,’ and anything that has another type of world or universe aspect to it is so fun.”

While Marvel (Avengers: Age of Ultron) and Fox  (X-Men Days of Future Past) share the character rights to both Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. There a few things concerning their origins they don’t. Fox can use their connections to Magneto, The X-Men and mutants, Marvel cannot. It’s also confirmed that they will be referred to their first names instead of their mutant names in Age of Ultron. How will Marvel explain their origins without having connections to mutants and the X-Men?

One theory is that Marvel is looking to use alternate names and origins for mutant-like characters in the MCU. In Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, humans with powers are labelled as “gifted”. The phrase was recently copyrighted by Marvel. They also keep saying that Inhumans will be the MCU version of the X-Men. Hinting that the Inhumans could end up becoming film universe’s version of mutants. A large storyline in the comics is about reveal a giant percentage of superpowered folks are actually Inhumans. Leading to Marvel Studios’ Inhumans film which has been in development for a couple of years now. It wouldn’t be hard to imagine that the warring side of S.H.I.E.L.D (alluded to in Winter Soldier) employs other superpowered people to go toe-to-toe with The Avengers.

I also wouldn’t rule out that twins being Kree as well. There are more than a few interstellar references by Olsen in her statement concerning Wanda. Joss Whedon has confirmed the pair will start out as villains. More than a couple theories have pointed to Ultron’s origin possibly having cosmic influence. Which could mean he might be created or controlled by Thanos. Having the twins start off as minions of Ultron or even Thanos could be a fresh way to introduce them. We know that Ronan The Accuser (a Kree warrior/leader) is the main villain of Guardians of The Galaxy and is working for Thanos. It’s not a giant leap to believe that Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver could also be in the service of Thanos as fellow Kree warriors. That’s of course if it turns out to be the twins are either Inhumans or Kree.
