SDCC: New SHIELD Ongoing Comic Series by MARK WAID

Marvel just announced that superstar writing Mark Waid will be penning a new SHIELD ongoing comic book series, starring the characters from the Agents of SHIELD TV show.

The series will star Agent (or is it Director) Coulson and his team, Skye, Melinda May, Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons will team up with various Marvel characters in the mainstream Marvel comic book universe.

The cover of SHIELD #1 depicts Storm, Spider-Man, Thor, Captain America, The Thing and a monkey. However, no word about whether the inconsistent pacing, unbalanced build-up, off-putting humor, shallow characterization and SHIELD committing rampant human rights law and international law violations will crossover from the TV series to the comic book.

Mark Waid, however, did say that the team will team up with the likes of Rocket Raccoon and (for some reason) Howard the Duck. The series will also have a rotating team of artists that includes Carlos Pacheco, Alan Davis and Chris Sprouse.

“This is SHIELD the TV show but with an unlimited budget. The structure of the series is done-in-one. Coulson and his team have a mission, and if we need someone for a mission, everyone in the Marvel Universe is available as a potential Agent.”

Be sure to catch SHIELD #1 this December. Also, Agents of SHIELD is getting a second season this fall, although we don’t recommend it because we love to hate on Agents of SHIELD.
