SONIC THE HEDGEHOG Speeds His Way into Next SMASH BROS. Game! PLUS TRAILER!

At this morning’s Nintendo Direct, we got a really big character confirmation for next year’s Smash Bros. installment: The “Blue Blur” himself, Sonic the Hedgehog!

Sonic the Hedgheog was previously playable in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which was huge news at the time (and still is). The funny thing is, most people assumed that Sonic wouldn’t return. After all, wouldn’t Mega Man count as a replacement? I guess not.

Sonic vs Mega Man? AWESOME!

Not that I mind. Sonic is a great character, and I welcome his return with open arms. Also, this could be our only chance to have Sonic and Mega Man together in the same game. I mean, wow, the “Blue Blur” and the “Blue Bomber”.

Meanwhile, Green Hill Zone also seems to be confirmed, via some screenshots from the website, so yeah, cool. Actually, this is good timing, since Sonic’s next game, Lost World, will be released in only a few weeks.

Poor Luigi.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U will be released next year, and so far has over 15 confirmed characters. Does this news excite you, or leave you wary of third-party characters?

EDIT: The trailer is now online, featuring Sonic gameplay. So far, from what I can tell, Sonic’s moveset seems to be the same. But Green Hill Zone seems to have gone through a complete overhaul. Interestingly, the theme from Sonic Heroes plays during the trailer. I’m surprised they didn’t choose a more recent theme.
