New Super Mario Bros. 2 Coming This August to the 3DS

After six years, the sequel to pretty much the most popular game to be released on the Nintendo DS, New Super Mario Bros. (which also spawned a Wii version, called… New Super Mario Bros. Wii. No surprise there.), is coming to the Nintendo 3DS this August. And it probably won’t be a shock to you to find out that the title is New Super Mario Bros. 2. The sequel will be an old-school side-scroller, just like its predecessors, and will include the Power Leaf suit from Super Mario Bros. 3, which turns Mario into a… raccoon. Not only a raccoon, but a raccoon which uses its tail to fly.

Bros 2. was announced during a Japanese video presentation hosted by the president of Nintendo. Nintendo’s American Twitter feed also announced the sequel for an August release, so North America should be getting the game around the same time as Japan. The tweet also included a screenshot from the sequel:

Nintendo’s Facebook page also posted: ‘This all-new, side-scrolling adventure features Mario, Luigi and all your fave characters from the Mario series!’ So, what do you think of the news? Will you buy the sequel, or not bother? Sound off in the comments below.
