The Hunt Begins – THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Video Game Trailer!

Big news for Spider-fans out there! Kotaku has debuted the first trailer and screenshots for the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game. Among the images is a quick bio sheet on fan-favorite character, Kraven the Hunter, who seems to be playing Mr. Miyagi to Spidey’s Daniel LaRusso (from the original Karate Kid, not that crappy Jaden Smith remake).

Just like its predecessor, players assume the role of New York’s friendly neighborhood hero in a unique story inspired by the feature film but set in its own continuity. Throughout the game, players will encounter a number of new foes as well as some old friends, as they confront new threats all over the city. Peter Parker, Spider-Man’s nerdy persona, gets some screen time this go around, using his photography skills to investigate the menagerie of Marvel menaces in Manhattan. Hopefully this means some fun cut scenes at The Daily Bugle, and by extension, J. Jonah Jameson. If that happens, I hope J.K. Simmons is back in the role.

From first glance, the game looks impressive for a sequel. There’s more attention to detail in everything, especially Spidey’s costume. Players still get to free-roam through a greatly-enhanced Manhattan cityscape, one set to offer livelier, more engaging challenges. Central to that added detail is the new “Hero or Menace” system, which promotes superhero behavior by rewarding the web-slinger’s crime-fighting efforts, and adding consequences for letting crime get out of control. Though I’m a little disappointed that Green Goblin or Rhino (whose cross-species counterpart you got to fight in the first game) didn’t appear, Electro made an appearance near the end of the trailer. Hopefully some hunting tutelage from Kraven (who looks like Santa on steroids by the way) will make the game truly live up to the name ‘amazing’.
