DICE Awards 2013: Journey Sweeps Up!


The D.I.C.E awards are one of the most prestigious award ceremonies in the game industry. Last night in Vegas, the 16th annual ceremony as held, celebrating the games of 2012. Well, mostly celebrating one game… thatgamecompany’s Journey swept up, winning 8 of the 11 categories including Game of the Year!

The list of nominee’s this year was a high caliber lot. Journey led the charge with all 11 nominations, The Walking Dead series close behind with 8. Other notable games were Far Cry 3 (7), Halo 4 (6), Dishonored (5), Borderlands 2 (5). All of those except Halo 4 were also up for Game of the Year, with XCOM: Enemy Unknown replacing 343 studio’s debut Halo game.

 The D.I.C.E Summit is always interesting and there are some great awards going out to much needed games. It’s refreshing to see downloadable games put on the same, if not higher, pedestal to that of the AAA blockbuster games.
