STAR WARS Looking For a Young Han Solo: 2,500 Already Auditioned?!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes out in FIFTEEN DAYS! Well fourteen if you watch the premiere but whose counting? Well that or if you live in the UK, lucky bastards…. But we can’t stay mad at them. We do love the Brits and their sexy accents. All right I’m sorry I’m done drooling now.

Disney and Lucasfilm have been busy with the Star Wars franchise making saga films and not just that, but also spinoffs/anthology films which doesn’t look like they will stop with any time soon. Next year’s Rogue One will be the first Anthology installment, all about the Rebels stealing the plans to the Death Star, and 2018 will see Han Solo return to the big screen – just much, much younger. Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller have reportedly begun the casting search for someone to take up Harrison Ford’s blaster, one which has stretched to 2,500 people. The casting director must be having a lot of fun right now.

To be honest it’s exciting but at the same time it’s scary. It would be an exciting idea if you could get the chance to be in a Star Wars film which is every child’s dream. It’s scary though because who can be brave enough to even attempt at trying to play a young Harrison Ford, but Harrison Ford himself? He is one of the greatest actors ever and to get a chance to play young him is both inspiring and terrifying – but a lot of people don’t seem to mind that.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, there have been more than 2,500 actors that have auditioned for the project or put themselves on tape, as they try to find the man to fill in the “vest” of the infamous Harrison Ford. The rumor is that they aren’t due to shoot until January of 2017 for a 2018 release so a lot of time they have.

Some of the actors…

  • Dave Franco (21 Jump Street), 30,
  • Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Avengers: Age of Ultron), 25,
  • Miles Teller (Fantastic Four), 28
  • Nick Robinson (Jurassic World), 20
  • Chandler Riggs (The Walking Dead), 16
  • Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson), 23
  • Ansel Elgort (The Fault in Our Stars), 21
  • Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction), 23
  • Colton Haynes (Arrow), 27
  • Max Thieriot (Bates Motel), 27.

To be honest, they might just stick with tradition and hire someone that is not well known as an actor. Personally I wouldn’t mind either one, but I would mostly worry about how they would “fit” into the role. Harrison Ford was an unknown when he was cast as Han Solo, with his biggest film to date being American Graffiti. Going with an unknown could also make it easier for us to see them just as Solo, and for them to avoid scrutiny.

Does that mean there will be Leia auditions later on in the process? If so, then sign me up! But for now what do you guys think about the auditions? Who would you guys think would make a good young Han Solo?

The movie is scheduled to start production in January 2017 for release on May 25th, 2018.
