Robert Downey Jr. Admits GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Is Best Marvel Movie Ever

Well, would you look at that. Marvel Studios’ top dog and resident funny-man has let a little air out of his ego. That’s right. Robert Downey Jr. has just admitted that another film, which doesn’t star Tony Stark, deserves the attribute of “Best Marvel Movie”.

“Galaxy in some ways is the best Marvel movie ever,” Downey says with admiration. “And it’s odd for someone with — on occasion — an ego the size of mine to actually say that!”

I think I agree.

Guardians-Galaxy-15

Guardians of the Galaxy wasn’t just one of Marvel’s best movies, but their funniest. Their saddest. Their “insert whatever emotion you want to experience in a film, because you’re definitely gonna laugh/cry/gasp simultaneously”-est. I can’t count the number of times my big, brown bearded face teared up during that flick. To name a few…. my eyes let slip a few drops during Peter’s opening prologue, a few more during Rocket’s drunk rant, a single messianic tear when Peter sacrificed himself for Gamora, and again at the film’s end for Peter’s mother.

But for every heart-stabbing moment, director James Gunn injected Guardians with levity. Immediately after Peter’s mother succumbs in the hospital, an adult Quill dances and prances in an alien landscape to the sweet, melodic tunes of Redbone. Later in the film, after Groot’s self sacrifice and the imminent destruction of Xandar, Star-Lord attempts to save the planet with a dance battle. Hilarious!

Without trailing into an infinite string of praise filled sentences, I’ll just simply state that I agree with Robert Downey Jr. Guardians of the Galaxy was probably Marvel’s best movie yet. And I can’t wait to see the sequel.
