Kapow! Comic-Con Won’t Return Until 2014

This news has certainly put a damper on the Christmas season for me. Yesterday, comic book writer and Creative Consultant on all 20th Century Fox Marvel movies Mark Millar revealed that despite two fantastic years of Kapow! Comic-Con (run by himself and Lucy and Sarah Unwin), due to an increased workload with Millarworld, Fox and more, the convention won’t be returning to London until 2014.

I had the pleasure of attending this year’s con and it was absolutely brilliant – I got to see exclusive footage from The Amazing Spider-Man and Total Recall months before they hit cinemas, chat with Gareth Edwards (Monsters, Godzilla), Nacho Vigolando (Supercrooks) and Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2), get comics signed from Avi Grandov and Mark Millar, meet Scott Snyder and much more. Read the announcement below:

Dear Friends,

Due to an increased workload in Millarworld and Millarworld Productions, we will not have time to arrange another wonderful Kapow! Comic Convention in 2013.

Sarah and I have had to make a very tough decision, and after much deliberation and poring over upcoming work schedules, we have decided to put Kapow! 2013 on hold. The event is a genuine pleasure to work on and everyone has been a total delight, but this year we are unable to dedicate the time necessary to deliver a weekend that once again exceeds the expectations of attendees, guests, exhibitors, publishers and studios.

Millarworld Productions first TV show ‘Pavilion of Dreams’ is scheduled to air on BBC One Scotland on Jan 3rd at 9pm and in 2013 both myself and Sarah will be heavily involved in the development and production of various TV shows and feature films.

We hope to return with an even bigger and better show for Kapow! 2014.

Best wishes and enjoy Christmas and New Year,

Lucy & Sarah Unwin

While this news did bring down my day, it’s good to hear that plans are already in motion for 2014’s event, and knowing that with an absolutely fantastic line-up of comic book and blockbuster movies coming 2014 and 2015 (and I suspect we’ll be getting some exclusives on Fox Marvel movies thanks to Millar’s new job) I hope that the next time I visit the convention it’ll be better than the last two put together!
