The renewed Toonami block has certainly been making waves since its revival 2 years ago. Airing shows that were already on Adult Swim’s anime block like Cowboy Bebop, Bleach, Inuyasha, and Ghost in the Shell; continuing shows that were on before the block’s cancellation like Naruto and One Piece; and airing newer shows like Casshern Sins, Deadman Wonderland, Soul Eater, Sword Art Online, Naruto Shippuden, & most recently Space Dandy (man Toonami has been a blessing for Funimation).

Toonami has had a rotating roster of shows since its return, making it pretty hard for it to stay consistent, but despite that it has managed to stay a popular way to spend a Saturday night.

Along with the demon action anime Blue Exorcist, which was announced a few weeks ago, it was announced yesterday that Black Lagoon will be joining the Toonami lineup in March!

For those not in the know Black Lagoon is an action anime released in 2006, produced by Studio Madhouse and is based off the manga series of the same name. It tells the story of Rokuro Okajima AKA Rock, a former Japanese salaryman, and his escapades with the Lagoon company, a group of pirates/mercenaries who will take any job for the right price.

The anime was originally shown on Starz Edge in 2008 and finished its 2 season run before starting up again on the Funimation Channel last year, with the Roberta’s Blood Trail OVA being releases last year as mini continuation of the series. The show is hailed as a cult classic for its characters, mature themes, violence, swearing, and fair amount of blood which could be a potential problem for Standards and Practices. The show drops a decent amount of F-bombs and other unsavory words that will mostly ensure each episode gets a goodshare of bleeps. Only time will tell how the show will fair on Toonami.

Black Lagoon will premiere on Toonami March 22nd, will you be tuned in? Let us know in the comments below!
