ARROW Casts Grant Gustin As THE FLASH

Warner Brothers Television announced Friday evening that Grant Gustin will be playing Barry Allen, a.k.a. The Flash, in the upcoming season of “Arrow.” Gustin will appear in episodes 8 and 9 to introduce the character, and then reappear in episode 20, which will both see him getting superpowers and work as a backdoor pilot for a possible “Flash” television spin-off show. WB also released this description of the character.

Barry Allen is a Central City assistant police forensic investigator who arrives in Starling to look into a series of unexplained robberies that may have a connection to a tragedy in his past. A comic book fan boy, Barry is obsessed with the Arrow unaware that working with Oliver and Felicity to solve the crime has brought him right into the dangerous world of the vigilante.

Gustin is expected to start filming on “Arrow” on Spetember 30. He has previously had recurring roles on “Glee” and “90210.”

Lead star Stephen Amell has already sent a congratulatory tweet to Gustin on landing the role.

Not having seen any of his previous work, I can’t say whether Gustin will be good in the role, but I’ll hope for the best. My only complaint is that he is way too young to be playing Barry Allen. Even Oliver Queen in the show is in his late 20s and looks closer to adult than young adult. I would have preferred a Barry Allen who is more seasoned as a forensic scientist and not someone who is just starting out.

Hey, at least he has that “CW” look going, right?
