AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW “Monsters Walk Among Us” Review

American Horror Story: Freak kicked off last night but is it intriguing or different enough to get you to watch?

The official description from FX:

One of the only surviving sideshows in the country struggles to stay in business during the dawning era of television; police make a terrifying discovery at a local farm house.

American Horror Story: Freak Show or AHS has started the newest season for the very popular anthology series. This year’s story takes on the sideshow arc and it is quite freaky. The season starts in Florida in the fifties, where we are introduced to our show runners who are all brought together by Jessica Lange’s character Elsa. This includes: The Bearded Woman, Conjoined Twins, A Penguin handed person and many more. We are introduced to most of these characters and given a back story with a look of their talents, by them being a part of Elsa’s side show, except, the Twins who are, both, played by Sarah Paulson. They are estranged from the group until the murder of their mother, who is killed by one of the twins, makes them turn to Elsa as a way of safe haven. It is very crazy. For the most part, this episode is your basic “set up the characters” plot, which is effective and continues the story along.

Now I will not try to spoil anything but there is one character we must highlight and that is the clown. There is this clown who is introduced that, at first, seems like a weird, gross, and odd but loving character but that switches very quickly when he starts murdering and kidnapping. It is very gruesome and crazy. I loved everything about it!

Overall, the series is starting out very well. Evan Peters comes back as the Penguin Hand Man and has some great moments. Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates are, both, two strong female characters who know how to command a presence.

American Horror Story: Freak Show starts with a bang and is as creepy as ever.
