Alan Taylor Will Direct Thor 2

Ever since Marvel’s public falling out with Thor 2 helmer Patty Jenkins, everyone’s been wondering when the House of Ideas would select her replacement. Well, it looks like all the swirling rumors were right and Alan Taylor of Game of Thrones fame will fill her shoes.  If you weren’t aware, Taylor’s been on a short list of possible candidates for the past few months and was even originally considered for the position before Jenkins was awarded the project earlier this fall.

I have to be honest, I’m not really sure what to think of Taylor. So far, all we know of him is from the few times he’s directed episodes of Game of Thrones. While he’s been perfectly capable of preserving the intensity of that show, he’s never demonstrated any measure of cinematic scope or epic battles which are so essential to a movie starring the Norse God of Thunder.

Before I attract all the ire of Westeros, let me just say this… Sure, GOT is a fine enough show, and it certainly has it’s brief moments of majesty and grand scope, but it can hardly be compared to the mind-blowing scale of a $150 million fantasy film. These two types of projects are so vastly different, that I can’t help but feel like Marvel took the cheap way out by hiring Taylor.

Hopefully I’m proven wrong, and Taylor will turn out to be a great chose. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Sound off in the comments with your thoughts.
