Is this a crossover that Aphrodite IX and Cyber Force fans need or is it an oversized disappointment? Read on to find out.
The official description from Top Cow:
A double-sized crossover event unlike any before! Two teams, seven centuries apart, united by one woman’s diabolical plan. The Chairwoman from CYBER FORCE had a plan to recreate the world in her children’s image. Things didn’t go as planned. Featuring the present day team of Cyber Force and the 28th century Aphrodite IX, this story lays the foundation for the new comic series IXth GENERATION, launching in 2015.
As expected this crossover focuses mainly on the recent events from Aphrodite IX with the green haired heroine learning more about the Aphrodite Protocol from a familiar face: Velocity. I personally didn’t mind it focusing more on Aphrodite IX as though some fans may be slightly disappointed with Cyber Force’s brief appearance I personally felt it clarified a lot of loose ends.
Matt Hawkins does a terrific job with this issue as though it wasn’t quite as thrilling as the main Aphrodite IX series the developments and revelations were simply mindblowing. The tension and drama that he builds through the Aphrodite IX/Velocity encounter really enthralled me with the flashback to an Cyber Force event being very smooth. Despite all this it’d be a late development that’d shock me the most with the last page having me excited for IXth Generation.
Stjepan Sejic is really on a roll producing two double sized comics in two weeks. Sejic still however manages to produce beautifully detailed art, merging the tone of Cyber Force with his already established Aphrodite IX look. The layout of Sejic’s art is also fabulous as ever with the dynamic flow and realistic character expressions adding a lot of depth and charm to the issue. Despite all this it’s the painted colours that Sejic produces that astound me the most as though the pencils and inks are also flawless the sleek finish that his colours give are really mindblowing.
Aphrodite IX/Cyber Force is a crossover that both Aphrodite IX and Cyber Force fans will enjoy as though not essential for the latter group it gives a fantastic teaser regarding the future of the former. Highly recommended.
