Who’s The Fourth Female Character In AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON?

In a recent interview with HeyUGuys, Joss Whedon stated that there would be four prominent female roles at the centre of Avengers: Age of Ultron.  We already know who three of those are: Black Widow, Scarlet Witch and Maria Hill.  Speculation remains about who the fourth female character is, since there were no spoilers or answers at the SDCC Avengers panel.

Perhaps it could be one of the following?

 CAROL DANVERS/MS. MARVEL/CAPTAIN MARVEL

Captain Marvel - Carol Danvers

Carol Danvers is probably the most well-known female member of the Avengers after Black Widow. She’s been in Marvel comics for decades and is in at least a couple thousand issues.  She was also a regular character in the Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes animated series, so she’s likely the most recognizable for those who don’t read the comics. Carol is a pretty fierce character – flight, super-speed, super-strength, energy absorption and manipulation – so she would be a welcome addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

MONICA RAMBEAU/CAPTAIN MARVEL/SPECTRUM

Captain Marvel - Monica Rambeau

Marvel has been on a roll these days with their quest for diversity, introducing both a female Thor and a black Captain America within a week. So it’s not a stretch to speculate that they may continue this in their cinematic ventures, and introduce Monica Rambeau, a female Avenger who also happens to be black. The 2012 Avengers movie was mostly a Caucasian male cast, so having a black female superhero would really spice things up.

That being said, Monica Rambeau shouldn’t be included just to fill a diversity quota. Rather, she should be included because she’s a great character and can deservedly hold a spot in the Avengers team.  As Captain Marvel, Monica has served as a leader of the Avengers team, and her superpowers are insane – she can absorb and manipulate pretty much any kind of energy, duplicate herself, manipulate her size, and more. Not to mention her alter-ego is a badass cop.  I’d love to see her on the big screen at some point.

SHARON CARTER or PEGGY CARTER

The Carters

Another likely featured female would be Peggy Carter, or her niece Sharon Carter.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe ties in both the live-action movies and the television series Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and that universe is about to be expanded with the introduction of the Agent Carter TV series.  There wouldn’t be any better press for that show than having Peggy Carter play a big role in the Avengers movie.  However, I have no idea how they’d do it, given that the last time we saw Peggy Carter was in a nursing home in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. We know she’ll be appearing at some point in the fil, but will her role truly be prominent or nothing more than a cameo?

Sharon Carter is the niece of Peggy Carter, and she had a significant role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. There is a possibility that she may be one of the primary female characters in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and that her character may be used to facilitate the integration of Agent Carter into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  That being said, Emily Van Camp is already on another ABC show (Revenge), and it’d be hard to imagine her playing two different characters on the same network.

Those are just three in a world of possibilities.  What do you think?  Who’s the unidentified female character to be featured in Avengers: Age of Ultron?
