VIN DIESEL Walking The Walk For GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

It looks like Vin Diesel is taking the proper “steps” to prepare for his role as Groot in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Bad pun aside, Diesel posted a video on his Facebook page of him walking on stilts on the set of “Fast & Furious 7.” Since Groot is a seven foot tall tree creature, Diesel’s performance will be motion-captured, which explains why he’s practicing walking from a taller height.

Despite no official confirmation from Disney yet, Diesel’s involvement in the movie has been hinted at since this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. He has previously stated that he’s excited to take on the challenge of playing Groot through motion capture and how it would be the first time he’s done work to what Andy Serkis did in “Lord of the Rings” and “Rise of the Planet of the Apes.”

Diesel also confirmed that he’ll only have one line of dialogue in the film: “I am Groot.” Production on “Guardians of the Galaxy” ended last week, so it’s very likely that Diesel will be meeting with director James Gunn soon to film his scenes.

I’m stoked to see Diesel taking this role seriously. Considering his one line of dialogue, Diesel is not only going to have to convey different emotion each time he says the line, but he’s also going to have to place emphasis on body language when doing the motion capture. Still, this is the guy that voiced the “Iron Giant,” so he’s had experience giving emotion and believability to characters who don’t have much to say.

I get the feeling he’s going to kick ass voicing everybody’s favorite talking tree giant, although there’s not many choices when looking for tree roles.
