Upcoming Star Trek Video Game Has Release Date, Cover Art

The upcoming Star Trek video game, simply titled Star Trek The Video Game, now has a release date. Curious? The date is…April 23, 2013. The game will be playable on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and the PC.

The game takes place in the universe of the J.J. Abrams prequel films, and will reportedly be canon. It takes place between the first film and Into Darkness (incentive for buying the game, eh?).

The game was announced way back in 2009, and was presumably meant to be a tie-in with the first film, but after some delays, was switched to tie-in with the sequel.

Most of the actors from the films (Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, etc) will reprise their roles in the game. Kirk and Spock will both be playable in the game’s co-op mode.

The game’s original plot is being written by Marianne Krawczyk, Alex Kurtzman (Transformers, Cowboys & Aliens), and Bob Orci (Mission: Impossible III, Transformers). The main antagonists will be the Gorn aliens (Trekkies should remember them). The game is being published by Namco Bandai Games.

The game is being labled as the “Big” Star Trek video game. That is a good thing, since Star Trek doesn’t have a notable game yet. Transformers has War for Cybertron, Star Wars has Battlefront and Force Unleashed, Batman has Arkham Asylum, James Bond has GoldenEye, etc. Star Trek could use a really big game.
