The X-MEN Are Back in First APOCALYPSE Trailer!

The X-Men film series is definitely one of the most interesting comic book franchises. After The Last Stand and Origins receiving negative reviews, many thought it was time for a reboot. We instead received a prequel in the form of First Class, which was critically acclaimed. Then we had Days of Future Past, which featured essentially an erasing of pretty much all the prior films. It was an intriguing way to bring back all the dead characters (Cyclops being the primary example) and start fresh.

Apocalypse is interesting because it’s the first X-Men adventure with the cast we know in this new continuity. While Magneto will always be known as the X-Men’s greatest enemy, Apocalypse is the most powerful in the comics, being basically the Thanos or Darskeid of the team.  The trailer, which will be seen alongside Star Wars: The Force Awakens next week, has been released early – let’s give it a watch below!

One of my main negatives with it is the line spoken by Cyclops, “some of us can’t control our powers.” After all these years it could be annoying to see these characters develop when we’ve already seen them fully in control in previous movies. With this grand plot, I don’t think having this other arc is necessary. Apocalypse seems to be portrayed very well, being this arrogant, powerful disillusioned ancient being. I’m really happy the trailer showed him turning giant, which should be one of the “big” highlights.

X-Men: Apocalypse is out next year on May 27th!

Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
