The NOVA CORPS Look Like Steampunk Poop

Oh, Marvel.

I tend to only cast derision in your general direction when you deserve it (I’m still pissed about that lackluster Thor vs Hulk fight in The Avengers and Captain America’s ridiculous red, white, & blue pajamas), and after unveiling the Nova Corps uniforms at SDCC this weekend, this is definitely one of those shit-talking occasions.

Why-oh-why did you transform one of Marvel’s most iconic superhero aesthetics into a steampunk inspired mess. The Nova Corps sport one of the coolest cosmic costumes in the entire comic book universe , and it looks like they’ve been reduced to generic Firefly henchmen in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Check out the comparison below:

Judge Dredd, anyone? Kick-Ass‘s Big Daddy?

Now, I’m all in favor of forging realistic designs, but director James Gunn didn’t need to do THAT much with the Nova gear. The suits were already “realistic”, or about as realistic as a flying space man can be, especially compared to the rest of Marvel’s pantheon.  I genuinely don’t understand Kevin Feige and crew’s adherence to the two basic costume archetypes they’ve established in their flicks: 1) Leathery, canvas suits (Hawkeye, Captain America, Black Widow) 2) Cosmic plastic (Thor, Thanos, Chitauri).

Is there no way to return the Nova Corps to their badass armor?
