Sean Connery Was Almost In SKYFALL


Whilst speaking to The Huffington Post this week Skyfall director Sam Mendes revealed that there were early discussions to approach Sean Connery to play the role of Kincade, played in  by Albert Finney, the caretaker of Skyfall Lodge. Ultimately it was decided that it would have been too much of a distraction for the audience, and the idea never went further than those preliminary discussions.

When asked if he had considered working in Sean Connery, Sam Mendes said the following;

There was a definite discussion about that — way, way early on. But I think that’s problematic. Because, to me, it becomes too … it would take you out of the movie. Connery is Bond and he’s not going to come back as another character. It’s like, he’s been there. So, it was a very brief flirtation with that thought, but it was never going to happen, because I thought it would distract.

Despite there already being a plethora of winks and nudges to the 50 year history of James Bond we can’t help but wonder what could have been…
