Sean Connery Was Almost In SKYFALL

Whilst speaking to The Huffington Post this week Skyfall director Sam Mendes revealed that there were early discussions to approach Sean Connery to play the role of Kincade, played inĀ  by Albert Finney, the caretaker of Skyfall Lodge. Ultimately it was decided that it would have been too much of a distraction for the audience, and the idea never went further than those preliminary discussions.

When asked if he had considered working in Sean Connery, Sam Mendes said the following;

There was a definite discussion about that — way, way early on. But I think that’s problematic. Because, to me, it becomes too … it would take you out of the movie. Connery is Bond and he’s not going to come back as another character. It’s like, he’s been there. So, it was a very brief flirtation with that thought, but it was never going to happen, because I thought it would distract.

Despite there already being a plethora of winks and nudges to the 50 year history of James Bond we can’t help but wonder what could have been…

    I think it would be cool to have Connery be in the film, with some kind of winking acknowledgement that he was the previous agent to work under the codename of “James Bond.” Like if Daniel Craig would introduce himself to Connery as Bond, and Connery would make some kind of offhand comment that would give Craig a confused look, but the audience would all understand what is implied.

      I was originally against this idea, I thoght it would feel handfisted ad disrepected to teh franchise and Sean Conney, but that sounds really fun. Kinda a “why not” moment. Hat’s off to you sir.
