Sony is moving the release date for Robocop once again. The news comes after George Clooney’s The Monuments Men move from December 18th 2013 to February 7th 2014. That just happens to be the same date as Robocop‘s release. I guess a George Clooney and Matt Damn reunion was enough of a threat to think it could zap some of Robocop‘s box office.  However, the studio seems confident enough to only push it back a week with it’s new date slated for February 12th 2014.

There’s some comforting buzz surrounding early screenings of the remake. Test audience reactions were mostly positive but there could be many changes to film before it’s release. While the unbalanced trailer shows some impressive new additions it still doesn’t feel perfect. Originally, the film had been looked at for a Spring 2013 release but the Sony decided on letting the film stew a bit longer in post-production. At the time there was negative reaction to the studio’s Total Recall reboot which had the same producer as Robocop. The cast includes Joel Kinnaman (Safe House, Snabba Cash), Abbie Cornish (Limitless, Sucker Punch), Michael Keaton (Batman), Michael K. Williams (The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, The Road), Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen, Little Children), Samuel L. Jackson (Jackie Brown, Avengers, Pulp Fiction, Django Unchained), Gary Oldman (Dark Knight Trilogy, The Professional, Bram Stoker’s Dracula) and Jay Baruchel (This Is The End, Goon).
