Ridley Scott’s sort-of Alien prequel Prometheus either angered or amazed audiences. The film had it’s problems but ultimately was a suitable installment within the Alien universe. At least in my opinion, it was a fun ride. A while back it was confirmed 20th Century Fox and Scott were actively pursing a sequel. Actors Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender are seemingly contractually obligated to return for the film. Screenwriters Jon Spaihts and Damon Lindelof confirmed they would not be returning to write another script.

The studio announced work on the sequel’s script would be handled by Jack Paglen. Jack’s previous work includes Oscar winning cinematographer Wally Pfister’s (Inception, The Dark Knight Trilogy) directorial debut Transcendence which stars Johnny Depp. Now there is word from Ridley himself via Empire that a script is not only still being worked on, the script is actually done. We haven’t heard official word from Fox if the project is going to get the green light anytime soon but it sounds like Ridley could be back in the chair for it.

“Prometheus 2 is written,” says Scott, but doesn’t indicate when it might start shooting. “I have already got the next two films ready to go. That will be 2014, 2015…I thought I’d left science-fiction for too long, that I had better climb back in. Prometheus was a great experience for me. Chasing number two, we can start evolving the grand idea…”

I personally loved Prometheus as a science fiction and Alien fan. Plot holes and character motivations aside, it was extremely entertaining. Along with visuals that should put future sci-fi films to shame. I’m beyond excited to hear about the process on it’s sequel. We don’t know for sure if this will actually happen as Ridley is also developing a Blade Runner sequel and a bunch of other projects. He’s currently on production of his Moses bible epic Exodus starring Christian Bale and confirms his next film is science fiction and will be coming in 2015.

That could possibly be Blade RunnerPrometheus 2 , or The Forever War but he’s not saying. Ridley also commented on the current status of his adaption of The Forever War which is at Fox. Another possible contender for that “science fiction thing”. At least this update will give us hope that Elizabeth and David will actually find their way to the Engineer home world. Plus, Ridley Scott making more science fiction is always a good thing.

“There is also this very well written piece, one of the last great science-fiction books called The Forever War [the bureaucracy and space battle masterpiece by Joe Haldeman] – we’ve finally got a very good draft of that for Fox,”
