OPTIMUS PRIME Is Big Blue Space Knight In New Pic

I never thought Optimus Prime was an unattractive Autobot. At least, not compared to the vociferous Transformers truist who derided Michael Bay for every tiny twist and turn in his previous trilogy. But even I’ve got to admit, Optimus Prime’s new look is DECADES better than his last outing in this new Transformers: Age of Extinction poster. He’s a giant blue samurai, from outer space, with a pilfered Dinobot broadsword in his grasp (since he lost his trusty katana in a bar room brawl). That’s one robot you DO NOT want to tumble with.

Although, I can see how some folks will argue that Optimus Prime’s new garb is an unnecessarily “sleeker, chicer, shinier” version of his traditional form. You know, much like Spider-Man’s dalliance with the black suit. Batman’s flirtation with armor. Hell, even Iron Man’s propensity for Silver fits this bill.

Still, I welcome this slight alteration to Optimus’s style. The big guy can’t always have windshields for a chest. As he wore in the first movie, of course. Don’t worry, I’ve embed a photo of his Transformers 1 guise below, even though I’m sure you didn’t need it.

Which is better? The classic, somewhat doofy (but totally badass) armament Michael Bay granted Optimus in the first trilogy? Or this new Space Knight/Space Samurai garb Optimus rocks in Age of Extinction?
