New Character Posters for BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE

We’ve gotten some good looks at each of DC’s “Trinity” during the trailers for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but nothing we could hang on our wall. Now, that’s all changed with the release of three new character posters made by DC. None of them features the characters as a collective, but we do get some decent looks at each of the characters on their own.

First off, we have Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman.

Batman v Superman Character Posters 1

This has to be the most angst Superman has ever displayed in a single image. He has his classic little hair curl, but the narrow eyes and stern jaw are enough to make you question whether or not this is truly the defender of truth, justice and the American way. His complexion is also a bit strange, so you can probably count on yet more rumors that Superman is really Bizarro. Because that theory isn’t ridiculous at all.

Next up, we have Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Frankly, this one’s a bit disappointing. First, the fact that they went with RoboBats for the poster is going to disappoint anyone who wanted him in something resembling the more classic Batman outfit. But more importantly, there’s really nothing going on here. Supes at least looks like he’s taking a short pause from an action beat, but Batfleck is literally just standing there with no emotion on the little bit of his face that you can see. It would almost have been better if they went with the ludicrous desert outfit with the goggles and overcoat. At least his shots in that outfit have usually been somewhat expressive.

Finally, we have Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman.

As far as expression is concerned, this is the most exciting of the three. With sword at the ready, Prince looks like she’s in the middle of a real action beat here. It’s also interesting to note the logo, which hasn’t appeared in much marketing material for the movie thus far. The name “Superman” was dropped pretty randomly in Man of Steel, but it’s possible that Wonder Woman might establish herself as a superhero in a more natural way toward the end of this new film. She’ll pretty much have to, if we’re to assume that her logo appears in the film at any point. As a side note, credit goes to DC for featuring a woman in an outfit that skimpy without leaving her hyper-sexualized in any way. This isn’t a poster meant to turn people on, but to excite them for her role in Batman v Superman. Which is exactly what it should be.

It’s unfortunate that the Trinity remains separate, but talented members of the fan base are doing what they can to make up for the slack. In fact, one poster was so well-made that CBR initially reported it as official.

Batman v Superman Character Posters 4

Official or not, it’s nice to see our three heroes side-by-side. And it’s not like we need fan posters for this particular image, since there was also a nice shot of the three included in the most recent trailer. But the three solo images are still pretty exciting, especially the one of Diana Prince. There’s no telling what role Wonder Woman will play in the fight between Bats, Supes and Doomsday, but it’s nice to finally see a movie poster with her face on it.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to open on March 25, 2016.
