New AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Poster Features Spidey Overlooking New York

Giving us one last Spidey-movie related gift, Sony Pictures has released a new poster for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Taking the same back shot of Spider-Man from the first poster, this time he’s viewing the New York skyline from most likely the Empire State building, considering how high up he is. No villains are featured on this poster, but there’s a storm brewing, referring both to Electro and, as the tagline suggests, his “greatest battle.” Considering we have another movie coming out after this, plus two spinoffs that might feature Spidey, it’s hard to believe this will be his greatest battle. Challenging, perhaps. He is, after all, facing off against a robot rhino, a man who’s powers produce shocking results (I couldn’t help myself), and an albino goblin snowboarder.

It’s not quite as exciting as the first teaser poster (or the teaser trailer for that matter), but considering that the movie is not due to be released for another five months, I understand Sony not wanting to show too much detail in the poster. Am I the only one who is getting a Spider-Man 2 (the 2004 movie) vibe from this movie? I feel like their marketing of the story is quite similar. Here’s the plot synopsis to recap:

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2™, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.
