Merle Gets Cast In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY!

Fan-favourite actor Michael Rooker, best known for his portrayal as the loveable asshole Merle in The Walking Dead, has long been speculated for a role in the upcoming Marvel space flick Guardians of the Galaxy. He and director James Gunn are good friends, so it made sense, and quite a few people wanted him to voice Rocket Raccoon. Well, if you were one of those people, you’ve got your wish.

Sort of.

Deadline revealed that Rooker has indeed been cast in the film, but will not be voicing the machine-gun-toting-raccoon. Instead he shall play Yondu, a bounty hunter of the planet Centauri IV, which was the first planet to be colonized outside of our solar system. A little more interestingly, he was actually one of the original Guardians from the classic comics (I suppose it’s a good thing that I recently bought The Korvac Saga TPB, which features Yondu) which gives us a few hints towards the plot of the movie.

Could we be seeing time travel come into play? It’s been heavily rumoured there will be, and it was previously reported that the film would be set in 2045. If all that is true, could we see characters such as Vance Astro (the owner of Captain America’s shield in the 31st Century) come into play!?

Or Yondu just exists in the current era of Guardians in this film and helps them out. What do you think? Are you excited to see Michael Rooker join the likes of Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana in Guardians of the Galaxy? Share your thoughts below!
