MEL GIBSON as THANOS? In THE AVENGERS? No. Way.

What. Is. This?

Apparently Robert Downey Jr. wants to find an Avengers: Age of Ultron role for his longtime friend (and serial racist) Mel Gibson. While I’m pretty quick to forgive ol’ Gibson for his less than savory comments about the Chosen people, I know quite a few people who are still pissed at the beer guzzling Aussie. Could he conquer all of that negative buzz in time for a return to summer blockbusters?

Naw… I don’t think so. I love Mel Gibson as an actor, I do. Lethal Weapon is one of my favorite 80’s flicks, and Gibson is a charming leading man in all of his other silver screen endeavors. BUT, he’s box office poison, and I’d much prefer that a safer actor was chosen for Avengers: Age of Ultron, instead of the awesome, but unpreditable Mel Gibson.

Like us, MTV Geek (or MTV Nerd, or MTV whatever-the-f###-they-call-themselves-now) doesn’t think that Gibson’s likely, but if he is, they’d love to see him as Thanos. An odd choice, no doubt, but not exactly the worst one I’ve ever heard. I’ve always imagined Thanos as a stoic baddie, like every other larger than life villain in the movie world, but Gibson could transform himself into something a bit stranger.

I suppose I’m down. But he’s definitely not my first choice.
