IGN has even more comments from Marvel’s Kevin Feige concerning Doctor Strange. He even reaffirms Edgar Wright’s claims that Ant-Man (July 2015) will indeed be a heist film. Wright also added previously it would have a high-tech spy angle. From the sounds of things Marvel also has embraced the weirdness of another character with Doctor Strange. Having Kevin create this much chatter concerning Strange should lead us to believe that the character at this point is the front-runner for a Phase Three slot. A script from Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly was reportedly going out to potential directors back in late 2011.

“It’s no secret that the supernatural angle, the angle of alternate and parallel dimensions, we have not done in any of the films, and is not only a big part of the Doctor Strange comics, but also a big part of the Marvel Universe that we haven’t explored yet. So, I love the notion of tapping into all of that through Strange one day.”

It’s good to hear that both Wright and Feige are on the same page about the first Phase Three project. As Ant-Man is currently in pre-production in Los Angeles and casting seeming already underway. The heist aspect gives more weight to the idea that Scott Lang (previously mentioned by Wright) could very well be a secondary player or even the villain of the film. Lang is best known as the second Ant-Man in the comics and had been linked for the film months ago. This also doesn’t rule out S.H.I.E.L.D Agent Eric O’Grady who also steals the Ant-Man suit for his own means. At one point there had been rumblings that the film could include a team of characters suiting-up. Hinting that we very well might see Ant-Man, Yellow Jacket, Wasp, Giant-Man and or Goliath in one installment.

“He’s [Edgar Wright] sort of tweaking the final draft with Joe Cornish. Who is a big director in his own right. But we’re crewing up and cast announcements before the end of the year…I think it will be very Edgar Wright in tone. But I think it’s a disservice to Edgar to just say it’s a comedy as we’re often asked about. He wants to do something very unique with it in the way Alan [Taylor] did in The Dark World. And Edgar early on, going years and years ago when he was first pitching it. Pitched it as much as a heist film as anything else. And that’s exciting to us at Marvel because we love each of our films to take on the characteristics of different genres each time.”
