MAGNETO Gets a Makeover in First Look at ASSASSIN’S CREED

I mean, Magneto is supposed to be different come X-Men: Apocalypse, but this is a pretty radical change.

Video game movies are quite often absolutely terrible, as is their reputation in Hollywood, however that all looks set to change in 2016 with Assassin’s Creed. Michael Fassbender is starring as the titular hero along with Marion Cotillard (Talia al Ghul in The Dark Knight Rises) who are obviously very top-tier talent, under the direction of Justin Kurzel. “Who? Is he crap?” I hear you ask – fret not. He’s directed the gorgeous-looking Macbeth which also stars Fassbender and Cotillard, and I think just one look at the trailer for that should convince you that he’ll be doing the video game justice.

Oh, and check out Mags’ new look below!

As someone who only ever played the game once at a friend’s house and subsequently failed instantly, I think he looks cool. Gamers, how does it compare to the original outfits?

Eh, they look pretty similar to me.

Fassbender’s character is Callum Lynch; before you get all bitchy about who the hell this Callum guy is, know that his character was created exclusively for the movie according to Yahoo!. Rather than adapting the games, the movie is gonna “introduce new characters into the world”. That’s kind of a bummer, however at the same time it could turn out to be pretty exciting.

Lynch discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society through unlocked genetic memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. After gaining incredible knowledge and skills he’s poised to take on the oppressive Knights Templar in the present day.

Magneto taking on a dangerous secret society? That’s all kinds of awesome. Assassin’s Creed starts shooting this Monday in Spain (duh), London and Malta, and hits theaters December 21st, 2016. I’m sure as hell gonna be there.
