SchmoesKnow were boasting a scoop recently, that Sony was looking to cast two of their young bankable stars to headline Ghostbusters 3. The two actors in question would be Jonah Hill and Emma Stone. Jonah and Emma blew up together thanks to the success of Sony’s Superbad. It was said they were in the mix to play the leads Anna and Jeremy in the third installment. An update reveals that Stone has passed on the role of Anna, while Jonah still has an offer to play Jeremy. Adding that, Sony won’t pursue the film if they’re unable to attract two big stars.

A lot of fans of the original films including Seth Rogen have voiced concern about making another movie. Even staple actor Bill Murray has been publicly against it the whole thing. Noting that he’d only want to return if they killed him off and came back as a ghost. Later, he stopped reading the scripts that were being delivered, instead shredding the pages and sending it back. Director Jason Reitman (Ivan’s son) hosted a live-read of the original Ghostbusters, featuring actors Seth Rogen, Jack Black, Kristen Wiig and Rainn Wilson playing the original roles.

Nothing is mentioned or confirmed, but it’s possible other films could conflict with the production of Ghostbusters. Stone is currently filming the latest Cameron Crowe movie with co-star Bradley Cooper. She is also re-teaming with Easy A director Will Gluck for an untitled comedy. Another projects she’s attached to is the cocaine fuelled Little White Corvette. A nerdy guy and his wild older sister (Stone) travel to Miami to try and sell a million-dollar stash of ’70s cocaine they found in the trunk of their late father’s car. That Will Gluck project could be the action comedy Secretaries Day which was written by Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3, Sherlock Holmes 3).

Her contract to make an appearance in Amazing Spider-Man 3 could be another factor. It’s been teased Gwen’s fate for Amazing Spider-Man 2. However, considering they’ve seemingly cut Shailene Woodley (Mary Jane Watson) and Chris Cooper (Norman Osborn) out of the film. We could see Gwen move forward into the third film. Emma had been originally set to star opposite Jonah in 21 Jump Street, but would later exit too.
