UPDATE: John C. Reilly Set To Play Ronan The Accuser In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Deadline is reporting that actor John C. Reilly (Step Brothers, Wreck-It Ralph) has signed on to play Ronan the Accuser in Marvel’s space epic, alongside Karen Gillan, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker and (probably) Benicio Del Toro as other villains.

HitFix originally revealed that Reilly was being looked at for the character of Rhomann Dey – the Guardians’ SHIELD liason out in space. Instantly when we all read this our reaction was ‘lolwut’, as in the comics Dey was the leader of the Nova CorpsJoBlo then went on to say that Ronan the Accuser, the leader of the Kree race which spawned both Captain and Ms Marvel, but with the likes of Nova Corps, The Collector, Thanos and God knows who else in this movie it was quickly brushed aside.

We got one confirmation from two different reports in one stroke. Something very interesting I noticed is that Deadline calls him Ronan ‘The Accuser’ Dey, and as far as I’m concerned his surname in the comics isn’t Dey. ‘Rhomann’ and ‘Ronan’ sound incredibly alike so it’s POSSIBLE that HitFix’s source got mixed up on the names, or it could be as drastic as the two characters are being merged together – meaning Ronan the Accuser would be the leader of the Nova Corps, or they’re the police force of the Kree.

Whatever happens, this movie is shaping up to be the most confusing casting and news-wise in a very long time. What do you think? Are you happy with Reilly as Ronan? Share your thoughts below.

UPDATE: Well, that was disappointing. As I speculated above, Deadline screwed up – Reilly is NOT playing Ronan the Accuser, but he WILL be playing the aforementioned Rhomann Dey. He’s the leader of the Nova Corps, otherwise known as Nova Prime, and is basically the Abin-Sur of Cosmic Marvel – he discovered Richard Rider (Nova) and gave him the mantle of the space hero.

That was a little disappointing wasn’t it?
