Tie Me Down… GAL GADOT is WONDER WOMAN?!

Okay maybe not that but at the very least shock and disappointment. If you’ve been listening to our fanboy rants (via the podcast) than you know, without a doubt, who my ideal casting is for WONDER WOMAN!

GINA CARANO

She was built to play Diana Prince. She’s got the looks, acting chops and all around warrior form to make her a believable match up against a hulking BatFleck or Man of Steel.

So when I awoke in the wee hours to a message from our site’s Editor-in-Chief I experienced a fever pitch of reactions.

WHY GAL GADOT?!

They’re going to ruin one of my favorite comic book characters!

WHAT’S ZACK SNYDER THINKING?!

She doesn’t look like she can take on Superman or Batman!

WHO BROUGHT HER IN TO AUDITION?!

The MARVEL Cinematic Universe again makes DC look terrible!

But now that I’ve had a minute to think about the selection I can’t help but feel a bit bad about my attitude. I didn’t see this coming and my reasons for a negative response are superficial at best. But the pick is interesting nonetheless. And once more, I’m eager to see what the actress does with the role. She’s going to have to go beyond her norm, which might just deliver a stronger performance more so than any of us expect right now.

In Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6 she caught my attention with a presence that showed a tough independent woman that could realize both the softer and sharper sides of the fabled Amazon. I am curious to see if this version of the character will embrace the mythology inherent in her lore, or if the creators have a different plan in mind for her origins.

But right now, based off what we got in Man of Steel, I’m willing to give them some room to do their thing.

Besides, as far as I’m concerned anything will be better than that horrid NBC pilot. Seriously, that was a low point for the character that few icons have had to endure.

It’s been disgusting the way some DC fans have been body shaming Gal over her figure not looking exactly like the comics.. they should be focusing on her acting and range not her build/looks..none of these actors look like the comics because they’d have to hire bodybuilders and pornstars to get that “look” perfect..

I recently discovered Gadot did her own stunts in FF6, something you won’t see with a majority of these actresses..a badass element that has been left out of the conversation..I also want to point out that while Gina was game for the role she’s expected to lead The Expendabelles being the first actress attached to that budding new action franchise..perhaps that commitment (contract might include sequels) is the reason she didn’t get the role…they did however get one of the better female actresses from the Fast franchise to setup.. I don’t want to pick on Carano but there was talk all her lines had to be re-dubbed for Haywire by a different actress, take that as you will perhaps that might have been an issue with casting her as well.. I remember her having very few speaking scenes in Fast 6 too..something that could be a problem if they want this actress to head-up a Wonder Woman film

German actress Antje Traue, who played Faora (an unknown at the time) stole scenes in Man of Steel and was amazing to watch as the secondary villain.. if Zack can turn an actress best known for a role in Pandorum to those cool levels, Gal won’t be a problem at all.. from what has been rumored the Wonder Woman role isn’t that large and likely won’t have much screen time

Gina Carano is a terrible choice… way too old and sorry but not pretty enough.
Maybe Gadot is no Lynda Carter, but let’s just give her a chance. As long as she works out her model twig arms a bit, I don’t have a problem with her.

The character Wonder Woman was endowed with magical strength by the gods of Olympia… that doesn’t mean she has to look super muscly.
