HULK was Cut from CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

Fans often joke about how Captain America: Civil War feels more like an Avengers sequel than a solo movie; in regards to all of the characters present they’re kinda right, however there are two notable absences: the Incredible Hulk and the Mighty Thor. Thor doesn’t need to show up and will be getting his own movie in Ragnarok in 2017, but Big Green doesn’t have any scheduled appearances.

After an odd romance with Black Widow in Age of Ultron, Bruce Banner got himself trapped on a Quinjet at the end of the movie. Rather than head back down to his team mates, he instead heads off to parts unknown. Due to being high up in the atmosphere the opportunity is there for the character to end up in space, but it’s probably more likely that he crash landed somewhere.

It’s been a big talking point about whether Hulk would appear in the movie or not. He wasn’t in the official announcement, but Robert Downey Jr apparently told Mark Ruffalo he is in the movie. Ruffalo has now confirmed to Italian site BadTaste that that was the case but isn’t anymore.

“The reason is too great to be revealed in this movie (Civil War). I was in the script but then they removed my character. They don’t want to reveal where is he and why. I don’t even know if Hulk will be back soon.”

This is actually really good news. Chucking him into the film would severely undercut Age of Ultron‘s ending and make it pretty much meaningless. By keeping some of the illusion and holding off on his reappearance for a few more years, Marvel can get us all talking and speculating even more than we already are and hype up the return of the Hulk.
