Hayley Atwell Won’t Return for Captain America: The Winter Soldier?

Nope, I’m afraid not. Hayley Atwell, who played Peggy Carter, Captain America’s love interest, in the first Captain America film, won’t be returning for the sequel film, which is due in theaters Spring 2014, at least according to an interview she gave with Time Out London.

However, I don’t think this means that Peggy Carter will be a no-show. Even of Atwell doesn’t return, you have to remember: since the sequel takes place over 70 years after the first, that means that if Peggy appears, she would be an old lady. Atwell is a pretty actress; she probably couldn’t play a character in her 90s. Of course, I’m assuming that she is alive. If she isn’t, well, than I guess Steve Rogers will need a new love-interest.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be released in US theaters in April 2014, and will be directed by Anthony and Joseph Russo (Community, Arrested Development). The film stars Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, Frank Grillo as Crossbones, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Anthony Mackie as Falcon, and Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury.
