A few weeks ago a casting report came online saying that Marvel were looking at three different actors for two “very physical” roles in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, consisting of Josh Holloway, Kevin Durand and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. It was supposed that these roles were Baron Zemo (who would be in control of the Winter Soldier) and Crossbones, the Red Skull’s personal assassin. Frank Grillo (Prison Break, Gangster Squad, Zero Dark Forty) is potentially the next name to add to the list.

Yesterday the actor was tweeting about going to an audition with Marvel for a fairly prominent role in the next Cap solo outing, but quickly deleted those tweets. This was followed by several tweets from radio host Matthew Aaron, who has it on good authority that Grillo was screen testing for the role of Crossbones. Obviously Grillo’s tweets are gone now, but you can read Aaron’s below:
@brianmbendis Have it on reliable authority that Frank Grillo is THIS CLOSE to getting the role of Crossbones in the Marvel movies
