Don’t Hate Me, But ZAC EFRON Would Actually Be Decent For STAR WARS EPISODE 7

Zac Efron.

Yes, before you even ask, that’s the same dude from Disney’s High School Musical series, and according to the latest reports, he’s one of the leading contenders for a starring role in STAR WARS EPISODE 7. As well, Ryan Gosling, another House of Mouse veteran, is in discussions, with many speculating that he’ll play Luke Skywalker’s son.

I’ve no doubt that we can all muster a passive acceptance of Gosling into the Star Wars universe, since he’s proven himself as a competent thespian in his recent series of flicks (Blue Valentine, Drive, The Ides of March), but Efron? Besides his musicals, he hasn’t participated in any high quality Hollywood films, but there’s one among them that gives hope…

17 Again.

A movie that shamelessly rips off 30 Going on 13, and suffers from similar plotholes, is actually a damn decent flick. Efron’s bromance with Thomas Lenon (Reno 911!) provides a barrel load of Star Wars fan service, and despite relying on humor as a crutch, Efron’s performance was pretty damn good. Better than his mopey Mc. Moperston gig in Charlie St. Cloud and his sing-a-long role in Hairspray, at the very least.

I know it’s difficult to remove the taint of High School Musical from your mind, but come on… this isn’t that bad of a choice. Efron is a decent actor. Check out 17 Again, laugh your ass off at the generic awesomeness, and then come back to me with your official geek verdict.

Also, please don’t murder me for suggesting Efron. That would suck.
