Colin Farrell Wants Some FANTASTIC BEASTS

And he’s off to find them.

Oh, Colin.

I really love Colin Farrell. For years he kinda got the short end of the stick from people because of that one crappy Daredevil movie and not being the biggest star going, but the dude’s likable and he’s a good actor. He was great in Seven Psychopaths and from the one episode I saw of him in True Detective he was pretty good. I love me a bit of Farrell. Turns out Warner Bros do as well, as they’ve cast him in the Harry Potter spin-off-prequel-thing Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, Fantastic Beasts is a prequel set in 1930’s New York focusing on a magical zoologist Newt Scalamander (Eddie Redmayne) who travels around the world to document magical animals and such things. It sounds like it could be a very Indiana Jones-esque franchise with some British quirks thrown in – which I’m just assuming given the cast and it’s J.K. Rowling writing. It might be pretty neat.

Farrell will be playing Graves, a wizard whom Scalamander meets in New York. Also in the cast will be Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller, Dan Fogler and Alison Sudol. Whereas the original franchise focused on some unknowns and surrounded them with well-known thespians, this movie seems to mostly just be unknowns with some kinda-sorta-known actors thrown in, which is cool and interesting. The brand recognition is enough alone to sell this movie – it doesn’t need huge A-listers. And hey, it’s always good to see Colin Farrell getting more work. Perhaps True Detective will do for him what it did for Matthew McConaughey.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits November 18th, 2016. Look for a couple more of them after that – hopefully also with some Farrell thrown in.
