Clark Gregg And Cobie Smulders Comment on the Future of The Avengers


Speaking to Screen Rant on the press junket for The Avengers, the stars behind Maria Hill and Agent Coulson took their time to talk about the movie, where Smulders wants to see Maria Hill go in the future, how Gregg thought about his character’s evolution in the movie, the themes of the Marvel Studios movies and Gregg hinted at the rumoured Guardians of the Galaxy movie Marvel has in the pipeline. Clark Gregg discusses his character’s representation in the film:

It was spectacularly gratifying because I know I stumbled into a small role in Iron Man that got bigger and bigger and became a number of movies. I am a fanboy and I grew up loving Marvel comics so to be there I feel like I won some prize at Comic-Con.

Cobie Smulders explains where she wants to see Maria Hill go from here:

I won’t know anything until I’m literally on set, but I would like to be a part of anything that S.H.I.E.L.D. is a part of. It’s a cool thought to lead S.H.I.E.L.D., but I would be sad to see Nick Fury go at the same time.

Clark Gregg talks about the future of the MCU and hints at Guardians of the Galaxy:

There might be another direction as well, represented in my opinion, as a fanboy, some of the villains we see here represent some other directions Marvel Comics took, but that’s just me guessing as a fanboy…it wouldn’t be enough if it was just muscles and suits. There seems to be some real ideas about what it means to consider yourself a guardian and the presumption that requires…
