Cillian Murphy Will Return in The Dark Knight Rises

Well, this is no surprise. The rumour of Cillian Murphy, aka Jonathan Crane, aka the Scarecrow, has been a rather persistent one, with Murphy himself staying silent on the matter when asked about it in press interviews. But, finally, we have some solid evidence to prove Murphy’s return in finale The Dark Knight Rises. A press release revealing what cast members are attending the European premiere of TDKR in London on July 18, revealed that a certain burlap-sack wearing villain will return for Christopher Nolan’s third and final Batman film… The guest list is as follows:

Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Liam Neeson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Cillian Murphy, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine.

This piece of evidence points towards a definite return for the Scarecrow in Rises, because why would Murphy be listed alongside confirmed cast members if he’s not in the movie? It’s likely that Murphy’s appearance won’t be much more than an extended cameo (with an already packed cast, the addition of another major villain to the mix would probably lead to the film buckling under its own weight) – after all, as the guest list also revealed, Liam Neeson’s back in some capacity – probably in a cameo role also – as Batman Begins villain Ra’s al Ghul…

The Dark Knight Rises will be released on July 20. Only three weeks to go…
