Boba Fett’s Daughter is the Lead of STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE…?!

Felicity Jones …

It seems we’re getting a new, crazy Star Wars rumour every few days. While this comes from a more credible source than most, it’s still kinda weird. El Mayimbe of Heroic Hollywood popped up on the YouTube show Meet the Movie Press on Friday and revealed a little detail about the upcoming Anthology movie, Star Wars: Rogue One.

There is a cast in place; Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything) is the lead and will be joined by Ben Mendehlson, Forest Whittaker and Sam Claflin, to name a few, and the film will be all about the rebels’ attempts to steal the plans to the Death Star which set the ball rolling in A New Hope. Darth Vader and Boba Fett will also be popping up, and it’s that big green bounty hunter who we’re interested in because Mayimbe is saying that Jones’ character is his daughter. Cray-zay.

They do make sure to clarify it’s just a rumour and might not pan out, and I really don’t believe it. It seems like a rather pointless connection given what we know of the film, but admittedly it could serve up some interesting dramatic conflict since Fett is firmly on the side of the Empire. However, you only have to take into account the ages of the character and Felicity Jones to know that this isn’t happening.

Boba Fett was born in 31BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin), meaning he was that age in A New Hope. Jones is 31 in real life. She can easily pass for ten or so years younger, but even then it would require her to have been born when her pops was a teenager, so it’s unlikely. “But that’s expanded universe info – it’s no longer canon!” Well, he’s a young kid in Attack of the Clones anyway; Revenge of the Sith is set three years afterwards and then A New Hope is nineteen years after that, so by the official timeline he’s probably still around thirty years old.

Sorry folks, but unless Lucasfilm have done some serious hoop-jumping with ages and canon, Boba Fett’s daughter won’t be the lead of Star Wars: Rogue One. It does make this whole business with the character a little more confusing, since the rumours have been all over the place about his involvement in the Anthology movies. However, it’s still possible that a Fett daughter will show up at some point – I certainly wouldn’t be against it – but it probably won’t be Felicity.
