We’ll be getting more DC films than we can handle in the next couple of years, as yet another DC Entertainment movie project has been announced via Variety. They report that Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are adapting the Ed Brubaker written Vertigo comic Sleeper. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck will be producing the film for the studio. Screenwriters Shawn Ryan and David Wiener have already been assigned for the script.

“Sleeper” — set in noir universe where a few people are spontaneously developing superpowers — follows Holden Carver, a man who can absorb pain and pass it on to others, as he infiltrates a criminal organization on behalf of a law enforcement agency. His allegiances come into question, especially when he falls for the alluring killer, Miss Misery.

Tom Cruise was once attached to the lead role. That doesn’t seem to be the case anymore since he’s moved on to other high-profile projects. I assume Matt Damon’s name could end up in the mix. Holden feels like a part Damon would be attracted to. Ed Brubaker’s run of the Captain America comic books is the inspiration for the upcoming Marvel release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Warner Bros. is going for broke with their comic book candidates piling-up. The current batch includes Guillermo del Toro’s Justice League Dark, Neil Gaiman’s Sandman and Suicide Squad. In July 2015, we’ll have Batman Vs Superman (title to be changed to something beyond silly?) co-starring Ben Affleck. The future of the Batman franchise is still uncertain but it’s possible that Affleck could be apart of that as well.
