THR and Variety reported yesterday, that one-time Guardians of The Galaxy candidate Jason Momoa (Bullet To The Head, Game of Thrones, Conan The Barbarian) is in-talks for a role in Zack Snyder’s loose Man of Steel sequel Batman Vs Superman. At that time they were hearing speculation that Momoa was being considered for either Justice League member Martian Manhunter or Superman villain Doomsday, neither trades were confident about the roles and seemed like guesses on their part (or their sources). New rumors online are making it less clear who he could be actually playing.
There has been confirmation that Wonder Woman (played by Gal Gadot) and possibly The Flash will appear in the film, likely to setup their own franchises or Justice League. It’s possible any other JL additions could mean a similar fate, including Martian Manhunter, Aquaman or a new Green Lantern. You might be shocked to learn that THR reported Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way (Ninja Scroll, Akira) was helping Warner Bros. develop films based on Aquaman and Adam Strange, of course this was before DC Entertainment came into the picture and cancelled a ton of DC Comics film projects including Suicide Squad (apparently back in-development with Goyer producing), Lobo and Sgt. Rock. LatinoReview even tweeted this cryptic hint to Hawkman, a character that was recently linked for big plans at the studio. There have even been hints to Cyborg and actor Henry Cavill even championed the hero’s addition, while Momoa has yet to be linked to Cyborg or Aquaman (Stargate: Atlantis connection?) it’s only a matter of time. Having Jason play a key part of JL makes some sense if he was pursuing a Marvel hero role like Drax in Guardians.
The actor isn’t really known for playing villains besides his role in Bullet To The Head, he mostly plays brutish anti-heroes such as Khal Drgo from Game of Thrones and Conan The Barbarian. If Goyer and Zack Snyder have found a way to give us a three-dimensional Doomsday I could believe they would want to use him, as there were teases from the Blu-Ray release of Man of Steel that the villain might appear soon. Aussie actor Callen Mulvey was linked for a villain role in the film and that could possibly be Metallo but now there is talk (via Nerdist and THR) this could be yet another part that Momoa might be up for, adding to the fact we don’t really have concrete information on who this gentleman could be playing in the film. Deadshot is a villain that’s expected to make a big impact in the DCU, appearing in his own film along with being a key member in The Suicide Squad, two films being developed by producer David Goyer. We’ve pointed out previously our theory who Jason Momoa should play, and another geek site has picked-up on this.
Nerdist is mind-melding with us about our opinion that Jason is perfect for the role of Lobo, which we have to assume Snyder/Goyer will want to use eventually in the DCU, as he’s an unique character playing both anti-hero and villain. Warner Bros. once tried to put together a solo movie (written by Thor‘s Don Payne) featuring the alien bounty-hunter and it was rumored he was going to be a villain in a future DC flick (possibly Justice League). Nothing says Jason is a lock for any single character at the moment, but we have our fingers crossed that Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. will seriously consider Jason for Lobo.
