Baron Zemo Confirmed To Be Main Villain in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

Even though the main focus of Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War seems to be the fight between Steve Rogers and his friend-turned-rival Tony Stark, there hasn’t been much news about the villains. The only two that have been revealed are Crossbones (who has been rumored to be who incites the Civil War) and Baron Zemo. Both are major opponents for Captain America in the comics, but we have assumed they will take a backseat to the clashes of two teams of Avengers. Apparently that is not the case…

During a recent interview with French outlet Premiere, Avengers: Age of Ultron star Elizabeth Olsen spoke on the film, saying that Daniel Brühl’s Baron Zemo will actually be the movie’s ‘main villain’ and how the film will differ from the last time we saw Earth’s Mightiest Heroes:

“Brühl is an incredible actor and he’s playing the main villain in it. And he’s incredible! It’s a movie about people as opposed to robots this time. So it’s darker and it’s allowed to be darker because it gets more in the mindset of humans rather than machines.”

While this may seem like a shock, I’m not that surprised. There were previous rumors that Crossbones would have that title, but he has traditionally been more of an enforcer than mastermind. Baron Zemo on the other hand has been fighting Captain America for two generations. The original, Baron Heinrich Zemo, was a Nazi scientist during World War II. His son, Baron Helmut Zero (who we assume Brühl will be playing), continued his father’s legacy in the modern era. After what happened to Baron Strucker in Age of Ultron, I’m sure many are glad to see someone else besides Red Skull step up to give Cap such a hard time.
