More Ruffalo, More HULK, More Smash in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

Avengers: Age of Ultron may be adding four new characters to the cast, but that’s not going to stop Joss Whedon and the writing team from giving each character their moment to shine. We’ve heard that Black Widow and Hawkeye will have more substantial roles this time around, and now Hulk is getting in on the action. In an interview with Total Film, Mark Ruffalo revealed that Bruce Banner will be getting more character development in the sequel.

[My role’s] even bigger than last time, and it’s more complex and it has more layers and a bit more arc

Ruffalo also praised the motion capture technology that lets him play Marvel’s Green Giant, a character who was previously an entirely CGI creation before The Avengers.

I’m really tripping on the technology of this motion-capture stuff… now I just completely embrace it and see it as this other exciting place we can go as performers.

If anyone deserves more character development and screen time, it’s Bruce Banner. He may have gotten a solo film, but with his franchise in suspended animation, these team-ups are the only times we get to see him. Sure it’s fun to see Iron Man, Captain America and Thor, but those guys have their own movies to significantly develop. Throw them in for the fights and interactions, but leave the major character progression to the heroes who don’t get their own films. Where else are they going to get it? Tie-in comics? No one reads those!

And, y’know, make sure to give us plenty of Hulk smash action. We still see these movies for the action and ass-kickery after all.
