Avengers News Update

Alright everyone, Marvel‘s been leaking a ton of information over the the past few days for their summer blockbuster The Avengers, so we’ve piled all the greatest stuff into a single lump for your viewing pleasure.

First things first, Joss Whedon has revealed that a huge chunk of the film will be from the POV of Captain America, which makes a ton of sense. Cap is a man out of time, a hero from World War II, and I think the modern Marvel world of gods and superheroes will seem a lot less bizarre from his perspective. Here’s the full quote from the Entertainment Weekly article:

“I set out with a very simple problem: There is no reason for these people to be in the same movie. So that’s what my movie has to be about. So much of the movie takes place from Steve Rogers’ (Chris Evans) perspective, since he’s the guy who just woke up and sees this weird ass world. Everyone else has been living in it.”

Another cool bit from The Avengers was released in the form of this set picture. It’s a shot from the battle in downtown New York featuring a very weary Captain America. Check it out below:

And here are a few more odds and ends from the interview with Whedon, transcribed by our friends at CBM.

More about Steve Rogers

“[The Avengers] is very much about people who are alone — because I’m writing it.[Captain America] is kind of the ultimate loner in that way. There is an anachronism to him, and Chris and I have always tried to make it, without making it goofy or too obvious, always tried to make him that same grounded ’40s Steve Rogers he was in the other movie.”

About the team’s chemistry

“You get them in a world, the world of S.H.I.E.L.D., where they fit in. And you say, upfront, these are monsters. These are freaks. These are not you and me, and what are they doing here? How are they human beings? Let’s just investigate that.”
